| A Doctor's Surgery Brief
The doctor had two specific requests. To be able to:
- consult with other medical practitioners in a conference
- receive only selected calls while he is busy examining a Mr.
G. Course every Wednesday afternoon.
These two basic requests are easily fulfilled using
Conferencing and External Call-forward features. One or both of these two features would
apply to many other different types of businesses. Not all the conference-control keys
would necessarily be set-up in every instance; it's just that conferencing was an
often-used feature in this particular office.
Solution
The receptionist's keyset had Conference (Function 60), Unsupervised Conference
(Function 77), Private Talk (Function 57), Forced Release (Function 74) and Mute (Function
76) feature keys programmed.
The doctor had External Call Forward (Function 26), Private
Talk (Function 57) and Forced Release (Function 74) programmed on some of his feature
keys.
His External Call-forward key was set-up with his mobile
telephone number by using F2 plus soft keys to set up an external call forward (the
light on the F26 key glows!).
Dont forget that ECF must be set to "Y" in
extension programming category 3. The doctor's extension did not appear in the C.O.
Ringing Position list (which would not have allowed the ECF function to work) so his F26
key will correctly function.
The doctor must be told how to use 0# (and 0*) to clear or
extend the call.
Operation
Conferencing
The receptionist was given a list of conference participants. She then set-up the
conference (with up to three external participants) using standard Conference procedures.
The Unsupervised Conference key was usually used to leave the conferees talking alone. She
would occasionally participate in the conference as an active participant or sometimes as
an observer by using her Mute key and just listening to the conference. If the (local)
doctor was the last-connected conference participant, he became the conference controller
one the receptionist left the conference.
The Private Talk and Forced Release keys were be used as
required.
Examining Mr. G. Course
On Wednesday afternoon the doctor simply pressed his F26 key and gave a list of
"urgent" callers to the receptionist. If a caller was not on the list they were
informed that the doctor was unavailable until the morning. If the caller was on the list
the call was transferred to his extension and (because of the call-forward instruction)
his mobile would ring, allowing him to take the urgent call.
