Exchange lines

There are either 4 or 6 (non-expandable exchange line ports in the KSU. Some of the more important parameters are discussed below.

Trunk Type
C.O. ports on the system may be programmed as CO, PBX or EMPTY. It is essential to nominate all un-used ports as "empty" to ensure correct operation of system features such as Abbreviated Dialling. If a port is nominated as "PBX", settings such as "PBX auto pause time" and "PBX codes" are automatically invoked. A Hytel door-station uses a standard "EXGE' port.

Dialing protocol
Each port can use Tone or Pulse dialling protocol.

Trunk routes
Exchange lines can be grouped into trunk-routes (maximum 8 routes) with each route having one or more exchange lines. Up to two overflow routes can be nominated for each trunk route. Lines are searched in a pre-determined order within each route (with SEQL being the most common hunting method). It is essential to place a door-station in its own separate trunk route.

Exchange line access
Users simply dial digit 9 (which can be easily changed to 0) to access a free exchange line to make a call. Alternatively, they can press an "exchange line" feature key to receive PSTN exchange dialtone. Dialling an abbreviated number automatically selects a free exchange line and dials the stored number. Line Access Assignment tables can be used to block outgoing access to a nominated line from defined extensions. The Receive Assignment matrix is similarly used to prevent nominated extensions from receiving incoming exchange line rings.

Incoming call ringing
Incoming exchange calls can be programmed to ring (a) nominated extension(s) or a UCD group.

The UCD group can contain "ordinary" keysets or be a Voicemail hunt-group (directing calls to a Digimail voicemail unit). "Standard" UCD group members can receive calls in an "All ring", "Distributed ring" or "Linear ring" pattern. Overflow and re-route destinations can be provided for the UCD group.

The "Alternate Ringing Position" programming field can be used to ring additional keysets if the call is not answered before the Alternate Ring Timer expires (with keysets in the original group still continuing to be rung.

Toll Restriction & Class Of Service
The extension's COS setting combined with the Toll Restriction tables allow (or block) nominated numbers to be dialled from any given extension.

Least Cost Routing
LCR can be applied to outgoing exchange calls with the dialled digit-string first passing through a set of modification tables before eventually (after a non-adjustable 8-second delay) being outdialled.

External Loud Bell
A set of dry relay contacts are provided in the KSU to operate an external loud bell or alarm connected to the system. the contacts close in sympathy with the incoming exchange ring on all the exchange lines in (a) pre-programmed Trunk Route(s).

Private To
Programming an exchange line as "private to" an extension gives that extension exclusive access to that line. All ringing-position programming for the line is over-ridden and the line will ring only at the nominated extension. Private-trunk calls can be transferred to other extensions or placed on system hold and retrieved by other extensions.

Benefits Exchange line access
The Line Access Assignment matrix give exchange line access to the business groups that most require it. For example, outgoing exchange access may be limited to warehouse extensions to ensure the company's sales-group access is less restricted.

Incoming call ringing
Enormous flexibility exists within system programming for directing incoming exchange calls to ring extensions in a defined manner.
