Numbering Plan

The system numbering plan is totally flexible. Any system directory-number or resource-number allocation can be changed to suit any site-dependent numbering-plan requirements. The Operator Code, LCR Code and Trunk Route Directory numbers can be from one to four digits in length. All other directory numbers can be from two to four digits long.

The default numbering plan is:

Resource Assigned Numbers
Extension numbers 200 - 399
Paging Groups 400 - 429
UCD Groups 430 - 459
Call pickup Groups 460-489
Abbreviated numbers 500 - 599 (individual)
600 - 699 (system)
Exchange lines 700 - 789
Background music 800 - 809
Loud Bell 810 - 819
External Paging Amplifier 820 - 829
Virtual Numbers 830 - 859

Note that there are more numbers allocated to some resources than there are physical resources available on the system. The lowest numbered resource is resource #1 i.e. UCD #1 is 430, UCD #2 is 431, Call Pickup Group #1 is 460, etc,

Benefits The system numbering plan can be changed to meet specific site requirements. The most commonly requested change is to swap the 0 and 9 dialling codes for "operator" and "exchange line".

As an example of a more extensive change, a Hytel system installed in a retirement village had the numbering plan changed so that the extension numbers were in the 500-699 range. This allowed the extension number to reflect the existing number of each individual house in the village. The abbreviated numbers were changed to the 200-399 series. An emergency call from extension 512 immediately identified the source as house # 512.
